Let’s talk about size. After careful research, we have concluded that 13.3” is the right size for a writer. This size is not as small as an 11.6” laptop and is not a huge as a 15.6” laptop. The size finds an excellent balance between these two spectra and also manages to give you a super portable laptop. So if portability is the main concern, then 13.3” is probably the right size for you.
The resolution is the next important factor when picking a display. As a minimum, you should go for a full HD resolution display. Some of the laptops we have included on this list have resolutions that are better than full HD but if budget is a problem, then you should go for a minimum of at least 1080p screens which are awesome for writing.
Having a good resolution on your display makes your text look sharp. As a writer, you don’t have to worry about how we fit the colors are on your screen but the quality of text on your display is everything.

The base model comes only with a dual-core Intel Core i3 processor but we think it is more than enough if writing is going to be the primary task of choice. Do not underestimate this processor as it can clock up to a maximum of 3.2GHz which is more power then what most writers would ever need.
The clock speed of the processor is also not that important. A base clock speed of around 1.1GHz will be enough for most writers as writing applications or not that processor intensive. But make sure that the processor can clock to higher clock speeds as you will need more processing power at some point in time when running other applications.
You will not need a quad-core processor on your laptop if writing is the only thing on your mind. But if you plan to do other stuff like photo editing, running heavy applications, and other activities, then it would be smart to go for a quadcore processor so that you can futureproof your laptop for years to come.
Since you don’t need a lot of processing power, picking the brand also becomes easier. You don’t have to spend an extra premium to get an Intel processor while AMD processors are a lot cheaper. This can help you save some money which you could spend on some other hardware on the laptop. As a general recommendation, we would ask you to go for a 256GB solid-state drive because that will age a lot better and can give you more space in the future.
Regardless of how much capacity you go with, one mistake to avoid is going for a mechanical hard drive. These storage drives are a thing of the past and they should not exist in modern-day computers. A mechanical hard drive is a lot slower than a solid-state drive and can pull you down with itself when it comes to performance.
If you can’t afford a solid-state drive, then you can try to balance storage space and speed by opting for a fusion drive. This is a drive that has both a mechanical hard drive component and a solid-state drive complaint giving you the best of both worlds. They will cost you a lot less and will give you a lot more storage.
Graphics
Having a litigated graphics card is not at all necessary for a writer’s laptop. Some of the best laptops for writers do not come with a dedicated graphics card and are completely dependent on the integrated graphics card for its graphics performance.
